Back with another guide to improve your Clash of Clans game-play. Guides mostly intended for newbies, but hey, if you’re an experienced player, there might be something you missed. I will try to aim for 3 topics with each guide post, and today’s topics are about Offensive attacks, Defenses, and walls.
[Offense] Anything to improve your attacks should be your #1 priority in this game. This includes things like army camps immediately maxed at every new TH level, barracks UP TO a level that unlocks a troop you want for an attack strategy (Or barracks to max level if donating troops; If not fulfilling high-level troop donation requests, then it’s unnecessary at the start.) Be sure to get all the barracks up to the same level of your desired troop to reduce it’s training time. This also includes a max-upgraded laboratory with a focus on 1-2 army compositions, rather than trying to max everything out.
When you think about it, making your Offense more powerful before Defense makes sense because you can attack many times for a few hours every day; you get loot, trophies, and practice; but with your Defensive buildings, you get attacked only once, and then you get a shield for the rest of the day. Attacking is where you get all the loot from, and Defending is just against one defense per day to protect that loot. Moving on up to higher trophy levels results in more available loot and higher bonus loot rewards.
[Defense] Always set X-Bows to the “Air & Ground” setting, no exception. It’s just not worth it to have it set to only target “Ground” troops.
I highly recommend prioritizing Air Defense upgrades to it’s highest level for your TH ASAP. The easiest and/or most powerful attack strategies in the game across all TH levels all involve flying troops of some kind, such as Balloons [loons], Dragons [drags], Lava Hounds, Baby Dragons, Healers (for Queen Walks).
Have your Air Defense protected (surrounded by other buildings) so it can’t be easily taken out with a handful of troops before the flying troops are dropped, but make sure you don’t crowd too many defensive buildings around it which could easily be taken out from the AOE damage from a lightning spell. Remember that lightning spells can be dropped onto a wall to damage the neighboring Air Defense + other buildings on the opposite side of the wall, but it can’t damage storage containers or the Clan Castle. By having a storage container somewhere in front of (or near) an Air Defense will occupy the attacking troops for a time while they get picked off by the defenses; It will also help protect against ground troops from reaching the air defense while other defenses take them out.
[Walls] A good rule-of-thumb is that whenever a builder finishes upgrading anything, use that opportunity to upgrade a few walls to their max level before putting the builder on another upgrade for the next few hours/days. This will unload some stockpiled resources, and maintains a healthy balance of getting walls done at a good pace. Also if you’re going to be attacking for quite a while in a session, make sure to, again, throw some of those resources towards walls, so you don’t end up attacking with filled storage containers.
I made this mistake when I had max 8.5m gold and when I was attacking I found easy bases with excellent loot but I couldn’t take any of it. That could have potentially been a handful of wall upgrades with each attack, wasted.
